What is ABA?
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically validated approach to understanding behavior and how it is affected by the environment. In this context, “behavior” refers to actions and skills. “Environment” includes any influence – physical or social – that might change or be changed by one’s behavior.
ABA therapy includes many different techniques. All of these techniques focus on 'antecedents' (what happens before the behavior occurs) and consequences (what happens after the behavior occurs).
It is through the use of these techniques and principles that bring about meaningful and positive change in behavior. At Thrive, ABA is used to drive home the three focus areas of all therapies: communication, social skills, and life skills.
Several types of therapies that are based in ABA principles are described below. Click on any to learn more.
